KOTE (koh°teh) is a saddle shoulder doubled shawl collar buttoned cardigan, knit top down using the contiguous method. It features diagonal inset pockets, knit in-line with the rest of the work. Carefully placed slip stitch welts along with sturdy cabled increases through the shoulders provide strength and structure. Due to the intricate construction (there are many actions to keep track of) and extensive cabling, this cardigan is better suited for an intrepid intermediate or advanced knitter. Knowing how to read your knitting is imperative. This pattern relies heavily on charts and is not fully transcribed, and best suited to a knitter who is comfortable with charts. As Kote is heavily cabled, knowing how to cable without a cable needle is an advantage.

Techniques used include: top down contiguous knitting, cabled lifted directional increases, german short rows, double knitting, sewn and three needle bind-off.

SLOUCHY VERSION Recommended ease: Between 10 - 20 cm of positive ease at the bust when closed. Four size brackets fit busts between S1- 80-100 ( S2-100-120, S3-120-140, S4-140-160 )cm, and accommodate a wide range of body shapes. It is meant to be worn with abundant positive ease in both the sleeves and the body. With deep armscyes, it should comfortably fit a thin jumper and layers underneath for extra warmth and cosiness. Sizing is best chosen by the fit through the shoulders. When choosing which size to knit, go by the shoulder size that best suits you, then choose the higher or lower end of that sizing bracket by your bust size. Make your wool purchase accordingly. As the bust circumference is adjusted through the addition/subtraction of stitches in the underarm cast on, it is very easily modified to be a bit smaller or larger, depending on your needs!

SLOUCHY YARN REQUIREMENTS: 7-8 (8-9, 10-11, 12-13) skeins/ 1610/1840m (1840/2070m, 2300/2530, 2760/2990m) of Corrie Worsted by La Bien Aimée

FITTED VERSION Recommended ease: Between 5-15 cm of positive ease at the bust when closed. Eight size brackets fit bust circumferences between 80-85 (90-100, 100-110, 105) [115, 135, 145, 155] cm. With a shallower armscye than the Sofu version, this cardigan will still fit a lightweight jumper beneath, and/or a long sleeved shirt. The body length of this cardigan is shorter, ideally just overlapping the top of where one’s trousers traditionally fit, called the high-hip. Your sizing is determined by your best fit through the shoulders with the closest bust measurement to your desired ease, noting that the bust circumference can be modified a little at the underarm cast on. The sleeves are more steeply tapered, with a narrow fit through the wrists and doubled cuffs, with an option for a more stovepipe sleeve if desired.
